Eastern Medicine

Eastern philosophy has never had any doubts about the mind/body connection. It is not a matter of being “all in your head” or “all in your body”. It is a dance that requires two partners.

Contrast this philosophy to western thinking which treats physical ailments as “legitimate” and mental health issues as shameful, embarrassing, weak willed or worthy of blame. The reality is that most type II Diabetes, for example, is brought about by poor diets and lack of activity; yet few people seem to point the finger of blame. In order for type II Diabetics to control or even end their suffering, they must take recognize the contributing factors and take action.

In the treatment of fibromyalgia, sufferers need to recognize the mind/body connection. It is a fact that the physical suffering is very real and not “in the head”; there are ample studies that support the existence of over active nerve endings. However, the relationship also exists between the emotions, subconscious mind and the physical body. Decades of study substantiate that buried and ignored emotions can build up over time and lead to physical ills of all sorts; not just fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia symptoms are just one way for the body to manifest the workings of the subconscious mind. Studies support the notion that disturbances such as IBS, CFS, RLS and even cancers are triggered by prolonged buried emotionally stress.
